My name is David Valerio. By vocation, I'm a Byzantine Catholic husband and father. By training, I'm an Earth scientist. By trade, I am a safety guy. By chance, I live in Western North Dakota.

Discern Earth is where I shoot my musings, considerations, and takes into the void. It was originally a podcast focused on why nature professionals do what they do (thus the name), but after I left the climate world it has evolved into my any-and-all-purpose newsletter.

Topics include whatever I want to write about, which includes such matters as faith, work, technology, truth, creation, energy, environment and much more: all are fair game. The through line is me and what I am interested in.

I post when I want so don't expect to receive emails on a regular cadence. When I get into the swing of things I shoot for once a week as a goal, but don't hold myself to it. Subscribe if you'd like!
